Doncaster house prices increased more than the average in December


The boost contributes to the longer-term trend, which has seen property prices in the area achieve 7.4 per cent annual growth.

The average Doncaster house price in December was £142,313, Land Registry figures show – a 2.4 per cent increase on November.

Over the month, the picture was better than that across Yorkshire and The Humber, where prices increased 1.1 per cent, and Doncaster outperformed the 1.2 per cent rise for the UK as a whole.

Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Doncaster rose by £9,800 – putting the area 19th among Yorkshire and The Humber’s 24 local authorities for annual growth.

The best annual growth in the region was in Richmondshire, where property prices increased on average by 24.3 per cent, to £255,000. At the other end of the scale, properties in Harrogate gained 1.3 per cent in value, giving an average price of £295,000.

Owners of terraced houses saw the biggest improvement in property prices in Doncaster in December – they increased 2.6 per cent, to £107,793 on average. Over the last year, prices rose by 7.5 per cent.

First-time buyers in Doncaster spent an average of £126,900 on their property – £8,300 more than a year ago, and £22,300 more than in November 2015.

By comparison, former owner-occupiers paid £157,700 on average in December – 24.3 per cent more than first-time buyers.

Buyers paid 22.2 per cent less than the average price in Yorkshire and The Humber (£183,000) in December for a property in Doncaster. Across Yorkshire and The Humber, property prices are low compared to those across the UK, where the average is £252,000. The most expensive properties in Yorkshire and The Humber were in Harrogate – £295,000 on average, and 2.1 times as much as in Doncaster.
